Artist’s Statement and Biography

As an artist I am inspired by places that make an impression on me. Moving water, solitary trees, contrasting light, shadows and clouds move me to express my feelings on canvas. I like to share the inspirational feeling with the viewer.
My interest in art began at a very young age and I became a member of the ‘Bay School of Art’ at the age of twelve when I began oil painting. My paintings are mainly impressionistic with enhanced brush work. I have experimented with all types of media but my preference is oil painting. I especially enjoy painting landscapes inspired by my love of nature. I also enjoy painting still life, portraits, ‘en plein air’ and painting from my own photographs. Famous artists who inspire me are Claude Monet, Tom Thomson, Michelangelo and Michael Garmash. In 2011 my oil paintings placed first and third in the ‘Juried Art Show’ at the Blue Mountain Foundation of the Arts and I was one of the five finalists in the ‘Murray Clerkson Award Show’ in 2012. Some of my favourite activities include biking, hiking, camping and kayaking. I am presently a grade twelve student at Collingwood Collegiate Institute and I plan to study fine art at the post secondary level in September 2013. Art is my passion.
